We stayed on another municipal campsite which again was clean and well equipped. The site is between Carlingford Lough and the Mourne Mountains with the 485 metre Slievemartin peak being a couple of miles away. We drove through the infamous Warrenpoint on the way in which invoked memories of the \u201ctroubles\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 12th September we ran a couple of trails parallel with Carlingford Lough. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 13th September we climbed to the top of Slievemartin <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The path initially followed a steep stream<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

En-route we discovered shamrock and a real, live leprechaun.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

On the way down we sought an advertised glacial feature – an erratic named Cloughmore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fantastic pine-needle carpet on this stretch.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The Cloughmore Stone – a glacial erratic. Local folklore is that the infamous and giant Finn McCool threw it here from Ireland (the other side of Carlingford Lough). He\u2019s the pesky chap who formed Giants Causeway and Lough Neagh whilst fighting with a giant across the Irish Sea in Scotland.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
