C\u00e1ceres 11 March 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We cycled the 4 miles from the campsite to the old town of C\u00e1seres. Hardly anybody there so seemed surreal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

C\u00e1ceres is a city in western Spain’s Extremadura region. Founded by the ancient Romans, it retains widespread evidence of subsequent occupation by many different cultures. Its old town, Ciudad Monumental, has a mix of Gothic and Renaissance architecture, with cobbled medieval streets, fortified houses and palaces. Encircled by 12th-century Moorish walls, it also has around 30 towers, some occupied by nesting storks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is where Game of Thrones was filmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We visited the city\u2019s museum which had a great mix of ancient artefacts and modern art, including some works by Picasso and Miro. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
